The Resident Symphony Orchestra of the City of Anaheim

November 24, 2013

Message to subscribers, friends and supporters,

What a wonderful concert and audience we experienced on October 27, 2013! With a near capacity audience we heard a fabulously fun program featuring our musicians and conductor in costume with special vignettes ranging from the “Three Blind Mice/flutes” to our Christopher Marsh acting as Master of the Stage along with Dr. David Rents. Students and adults alike were treated to introduction to the orchestra instruments with each section providing examples of just what their role is in the overall scheme of things. It was a memorable Halloween Extravaganza.

The November 24 concert “Musical,: the Melodies and Rhythms of Latin America” will feature a guest conductor, David Cube bringing us an evening of Latin American Composers. Dr. Cubek collaborates with Gustavo Dudamel and the YOLA program in Los Angeles as well as with “El Sistema” music education programs from Venezuela. See Press Release included.

As our ACSD Orchestra Project enters Week Seven a major funding source has come through the school district enabling us to place an order for nearly $50,000 which will provide approximately 50 % of the needed instruments for the program. We are working on matching funds, however, this only answers the problem in part. Fundraising will continue to be needed for the program to thrive for such items as teaching materials, supplies, replacement and maintenance. Our December 8th Gala benefit concert will be earmarked to benefit OCS as it sponsors the oversight of the ACSD Orchestra Project and students and their families continue to  be welcomed at our concerts as part of the curriculum in the classroom.

The 2013 annual benefit Gala will be held Sunday, December 8th at the historic Ebell Club House where renowned concert pianist Darrin Blumfield will present an afternoon of romantic and holiday piano artistry.

Darrin follows a long and very proud tradition of Classical Russian-Romantic performance growing up in training primarily by his father Coleman Blumfield who was a favorite student of the legendary Vladimir Horowitz. Darrin made his debut at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D. C.  and has appeared throughout the United States and abroad. He is a world class pianist who engages and captivates his audience playing with astonishing technique and deep musicality.

The Gala will include a gourmet luncheon and benefit auction. See the flyer included. We are especially blessed to have the Auction Chaired by June Glenn and the Concerto Guild members who are asking for donations that may be presented as auction items.

As always support from the community makes possible the Outreach programs, our scheduled concert season and the ACSD Orchestra Project providing music education and live concert experiences to our community since 2005. You are a critical part of a very special team

Thank you for all you do.

Together we make it happen!
